When you enter or exit Zion via the east entrance you will come across a very long tunnel (2-3 miles long). The above photo is the the solid rock mountain that you will be driving through. That small opening at the bottom center is an vent opening for this roadway. It was built in 1935 and was considered quite an engineering achievement.
