Casa Grande National Monument

Since this monument is only 13 miles west of Florence, AZ, we stopped by to take a look. The following photo explains a little about the native people that lived in this region as well as a few pics of the monument itself.

The following photo's showing the current structure has certainly changed during the last 700 to 800 yrs.

The roof covering the monument was originally built about 95 yrs ago and has since been reconstructed to prevent erosion from the elements.

The centuries have certainly taken its toll from what once was.

Springtime really brings out all of the flowing cactus. The monument certainly has quite a few. This red flower is from the Prickly Pear Cactus.

Desert Gardens RV Oasis

Before we leave Desert Gardens in a few weeks wanted to post a few photo's of why we choose this place as our winter home. This photo was taken looking toward the entrance off of Hwy 79 just south of Florence, AZ.

This photo shows the park office (on right) and the fountain as you enter the park. Attached to the back side of the office building is a game room complete with a 52" HD flat screen, several pool tables, shuffleboard and card tables. A separate building behind this building is a very complete exercise room with two treadmills, a universal gym, exercise bikes, and a few other assorted workout equipment.

Looking from the park office, the club house is on the left and the shower facilities on the right.

That small structure on the left is maintenance shed which is also a wood shop that can be used by all of the residents as well.

This pathway winds around the perimeter of our park (about 2 miles long) and provides a great view of many types of cactus, birds and ground critters. Also a cool biking trail.

OK, enough of the sunset photo's, but thought this was worth a look.

Desert Gardens RV Oasis

Well, we have purchased an RV site at Desert Gardens which is just south of Florence, AZ, and will be making this our winter home for a few years at least. This park has all of the amenities to make our new home base very enjoyable. Our site has a great view of the Sonoran Desert and is very spacious. Have attached a few photo's to give a look at our pad.

We will be leaving here in May (as the temps start to edge upward from warm to hot) and will be posting photo's of our travels through New Mexico and Colorado this summer.

A pic of our site and the newly acquired shed. We added colored gravel in the area outside of our RV which really helps with the dust during windy days.

This photo shows the "pavers" that we installed for the patio table and fire ring areas. They look fairly flat but are actually 8+ lb stone squares about 1 1/2 " high. Took some time to set into place but well worth the time & effort.

This pic shows the screen room that attaches to the awning. Makes for a nice outside room as well.
