Reno

As a perspective of how much Reno has expanded, the above photo shows the S/W portion from about 2000 ft above while the next photo was taken of Reno just to the right of this pic.
Not a little city any more!

Reno

Looking N/W - the main part of Reno is just about in the center of this photo.

Reno

I was told that Nevada has the largest wild horse population is the US. Sure enough, while driving on a rural road we ran across the above.

Virginia City

Of course when in the Reno area, a trip to Virginia City would be great day trip. The town began around 1859. The current residents have taken great measures to keep the towns buildings as close to its original look as possible.

Virginia City

A view of the main street shops that extend on both sides of the road for about 1/4 mile. A lot of the store fronts are originals from the 1800's.

Virginia City

In keeping with the old west theme, the walkways are wooden planks.

Verdi, Nv

Well, we have arrived at Verdi, Nevada (pronounced "Verdye") without any problems. This little town is just outside of Reno, Nevada where we will be catching up with my daughter. This is really a nice RV park with lots of space.

This our view from the back window of our RV

Lake Tahoe

A day trip to Lake Tahoe was well worth the drive. It will take you about 1 1/2 hours to drive around the entire shoreline.
This pic only captures a small part of this lake. The shoreline above shows the eastern side of the lake.

A pic of Canadian Geese making the lake their summer home.

Lake Tahoe

Stopped by one of the many state parks along the western shoreline. This pic is looking north while the next pic is looking south. The water is very clear and has some really beautiful colors.

Lake Tahoe

Quite a nice beach for a state park (D.L. Bliss State Park) located on the western side of the lake.

Lake Tahoe

We stopped by the Taylor Creek Visitor Center on the south side of Lake Tahoe as they has quite a few walking trails. Took a few pics as noted below.

Lake Tahoe

This is a pic of the Bald Eagle nesting area next to the trail leading toward the lake (off limits of course).

Lake Tahoe

Someone had gone to the trouble of erecting this make shift hut right next to the beach. Even came with a seat.

Lake Tahoe

The Taylor Creek Trail leads to a nice beach on the south side of the lake. The beach actually extends for about 1/2 mile.

Napa/St Helena

For this week, we have been spending time with family while staying in Vacaville, Ca.
Not much around to see in this area, but we did make one trip to the Napa Valley Vineyards.
A great place to see, but the two lane road is very crowded as this is a popular place for tourists (domestic and foreign) to visit.
Have included several pics of our visit.

Napa/St Helena

Robert Mondavi Winery - A pic of the statute at the entrance to this winery.

Napa/St Helena

Robert Mondavi Vineyard - One of the largest vineyards (if not the largest) in the Napa Valley.

Napa/St Helena

Sattui Vineyard - To the right of this fountain are picnic tables for those wanting to have lunch as well. All in all, a very nice place to visit - a great deli too.

Napa/St Helena

Sattui Vineyard - A grapevine walkway leading to a the fountain courtyard noted ahead.

Napa/St Helena

Sattui Vineyard - The bottom portion of this building leads to the wine barrel caves. It was also noted that this particular wine maker does not sell their products in stores. Either at the winery or by direct shipment from Sattui. A very good wine by the way.

Vacaville, Ca

For this week we are staying at Vineyard RV Park while visiting with family. A quiet park on the north side of Vacaville.

Monterey, Ca

This photo was taken through a store front window but thought it was worth posting. I need a dog like this.

Carmel

Before we left the Monterey area, wanted to include a visit to Carmel. One of the must see sites is the "Lone Cypress". The above plaque describes the pic below. Have included a few more pics of this jewel along the coastline.

Carmel

The Lone Cypress

Carmel

You will note a structure in the upper right. This is a new residence under construction. Since there are no small lots along the Carmel coast, the price for this location is anyones guess.

Carmel

This buck is looking at the golfers and seems pretty content (Pebble Beach). The view doesn't get much better for those residences at the top as the ocean is just to the right of this photo.

Carmel

These guys were just sitting on the property of one of the estate residences. The ocean is just beyond the tree line above.

Carmel

This area was actually fenced off from the road as the Sea Lions are raising their pups. We took this pic from a distance at another turnoff.

Monterey, Ca

During our stay, we took a trip to Monterey and took in the wharf and aquarium attractions. A few pics are posted below.

Monterey, Ca

A pic of Fisherman's Wharf and marina.

Just one pane of glass on this multiple window tank. This tank actually stretches about 30 feet across.

Except when hunting for food, Otters seem to prefer swimming on their backs

This is about as far out of the water as this Otter got.

Marina, CA

We have now arrived in Marina without any problems. Quite a change in temperatures from those in Visalia (about 25 degrees). This is a nice park and is only about a 15 minute drive south to Monterey.

Marina, CA

Thought the wooden bear carvings were worth a pic (just outside of the general store at the RV park).

Marina, CA

Just outside the entrance of Marina Dunes RV are the sand dunes that stretch for miles. The ocean is just beyond the sand.

Marina, CA

Looking south from Marina Dunes State Beach. The land just above the ocean line is actually the Monterey peninsula.

Marina, CA

A pic looking north from Marina State Beach

Marina, CA

Just a few feet off of the sand, he was just getting ready to set down. The winds (about 20 mph) allows gliding for hours along the dunes.

Marina, CA

Not a bad way to get around. Using the wind currents along the sand dunes gives him all the lift to travel the coastline for hours.
