Meteor Crater

OK, OK, based upon the above I really wasn't at the bottom but I wonder if I could have gotten away with it.

Meteor Crater

This view point (also seen in the next photo) gives such a grand view. There are three such points at the crater.

This view, looking at the bottom (550 ft), does not do justice to the 360 degrees seen from the available viewpoints.

Walnut Canyon National Monument

A great day trip just east of Flagstaff. The Sinagua people (meaning "without water")arrived in the greater Flagstaff area around 600 AD and left this canyon around 1250 AD without much explanation as to why. It is also disputed as to the actual number of residents but no less that 300 to as much as 1000. The following photo's are just a brief look but there is certainly a lot more to see should you get this way.

A look at the visitor center from an adjacent trail.

Walnut Canyon National Monument

This photo is a typical view for part of this 360 degree canyon. Although not really visible, the canyon walls are littered with cliff dwellings throughout. Seems amazing that the Sinagua Indians were able to traverse the sides to bring food and water to family members.

A view from the path looking up at the visitors center. I can tell you that the 240 steps back up were certainly a challenge for us.
