The "Catwalk", Glenwood, NM

Hello all,

First, sorry for not posting in our blog for awhile but as noted in my first post since arriving in Silver City we have been spending time really looking at this area's real estate as well as the services offered. We will be leaving this area in just over a week to get back to our "winter home" in Arizona.

I have posted photo's of several visits we made and wanted to share our pics as I do believe they are worth posting. This first will be of the Catwalk located in Glenwood, NM (about 67 mi north of S/City). This place was a real surprise. Much prettier that we thought. The second place was the small community of Pinos Altos just N/of S/City.

Thanks for hanging in there with us throughout the past several years. It has been a real joy to see and share our adventures with you all.

Take care

This photo gives you some details about the canyon as seen in the following pics.

The Catwalk trail starts off with some really cool canyon views.

This was taken underneath a rock formation below the Catwalk. I did lighten the photo a bit so that the water flow could be seen clearer.

Lots of different views as you ascend and descend the Catwalk trail.

The Catwalk was given a redo around 2003 and certainly took advantage of the natural terrain as it winds through the canyon.

The metal walkways of the Catwalk extend for about 275 ft but a much longer path continues before and after this section.

Certain sections really needed the supports as shown here.

This photo (and the next) was hard to do the photo's justice in how cool it was to view

Lots of stuff to see along the Catwalk pathway, but thought this was worth a post.

This photo was taken to illustrate the efforts to stabilize the rock wall surface. A very unusual place to visit for sure. If ever in the area I would certainly make it a place to see.

Pinos Altos

While in Silver City, we took a short 7 mile trip up Hwy 15 to this historic town that actually preceded S/City and was the very first settlement in the region. This photo is looking down "main street" (actually Hwy 15 bypass) and the few buildings still standing. An awful lot of history to be found for sure. Have posted a few photo's to give you an idea of what we saw.

Pinos Altos

I bet this place was really the "in place" to go 145 yrs ago.

Pinos Altos

Until recently this place was a fairly good steakhouse/bar but is now closed and undergoing a complete renovation (clearly this was needed, huh).

Pinos Altos

Found this interesting poster in the local ice cream shop, post office and general curios store all under one roof. Lots of stuff to look at for sure (also built in the 1860's).

Pinos Altos

As noted in the next photo.

We went inside this rather "old" museum and was pleasantly surprised at the collection of 19th century artifacts. Very interesting place to visit.

Not really sure just what this springtime plant is but thought it was worth a look.

Thought this sunset photo was worth a post.

Every now and then a really cool sunrise can be seen.

This photo shows one of the numerous thunderstorms that often develops over this area during the summer months. A recent storm showered our RV with pea size hail but only lasted 15 minutes or so. One positive benefit, a very complete wash of my truck and RV.

Hello,
The parks wi-fi system has not allowed us to post any photo's for awhile, but, since it is back, for now, thought a few pics from around the area would be in order.

The view from Emory Pass looks to the N/E and sits about 8300 ft before heading back down the eastern slope.

This beautiful flower is called an Indian Paint Brush and grows wild in this region. We had a few growing right behind our rig but the local rabbits really like the taste and they did not last very long.

While driving around Mimbres valley (just outside of Silver City) came across these guys enjoying the day.

Thought a photo of this mine would be a good post as noted below.

Although not the largest, this copper mine is one of the oldest and is much larger that this photo shows.

This photo shows the campus of Western New Mexico University. Really nice setting considering this is not a large city.

Spirits of the Mountain Scenic Byway

We decided to take a tour of this highway have posted some photo's to give a look at some beautiful countryside.

Spirits of the Mountain Scenic Byway

Stopped to take a look at the "Ben Lilly Memorial Trail" while on this highway and thought a few photo's would provide a look at some of the sights.

Spirits of the Mountain Scenic Byway

This rock formation sure had a lot of colors and thought is was worth a post.

Spirits of the Mountain Scenic Byway

My better half taking in the sights just off this trail.

Walking on this trail came across this small cactus growing out of the rocks.

Took this photo from one of the turnouts looking east towards the Gila Nat'l Forest.

This highway goes by Lake Roberts which is a great fishing lake sitting at about 6200 ft.

A look at this lake from the shoreline.

As we were heading back home wanted to post a photo of just one of the many vista's from the highway. Plenty of horse and cattle ranches in the area.

Just in case you may have forgotten what we looked like thought an "arms length" photo would be in order.

Silver city Blues Festival

As noted in last years photo's while in Silver City we again attended the annual Blues Festival last Sat. & Sun (free for all attendees)and had a great time. Attached a couple photo's while there.

Silver city Blues Festival

A look at part of the crowd attending this years event.

A look from under the shaded patio area. The musical gazebo is straight ahead. Oh yea, the single lady sitting in front of the camera (wearing a hat) is my better half.

Silver city Blues Festival

A different type of motorcycle, huh. I guess you could call this a three wheeler but in reverse.

Silver city Blues Festival

Lots of motorcycles but thought this one was the most unique.

This guy was the guitarist for the band "Soul Kitchen" and was really talented in the way he played. Actually the entire band was very good.

Rose Valley RV Ranch

We are back at this park for an extended stay so thought a few updated photo's would be a good idea. We will be looking at some of the sites we missed the last time we were here and will posts those photo's as we get around.

Rose Valley RV Ranch

At look at this place from a nearby hilltop. Sits off from the main highway and is a very quite location.

A view of our site looking southwest from the park.

Rose Valley RV Ranch

This RV park has some really cool wildflowers growing throughout all of the sites. The local inhabitants (rabbits - squirrels - gophers etc.) leave them alone so they flourish without much difficulty.
